FUNERALS According to the traditional Vietnamese way of thinking, death means 'farewell to an unreal and unhappy life, going to a real life in the other world'. That is why, at funerals, in addition to sad music such as NAM AI and XUAN NU, there is the humorous DIEU QUAN. At rich people's funeral, a group of 40 musicians with traditional instruments play music and sing HO DUA LINH (farewell song). Among them is one musician in black tunic with white border, wearing the mask of the God of the Earth. While the other sing the HO and play the music, this one dances a funny dance 'to see the dead person off to the other world'.
